Onnit Now Carries Oatmega Protein Bars

Onnit Now Carries Oatmega Protein BarsOatmega is a company based in Austin, Texas, so it only made sense that its products would eventually find their way to the virtual shelves of Onnit.

The Oatmega products currently found on the Onnit Labs website are two varieties of the Oatmega protein bars: chocolate mint crisp, and vanilla almond crisp.

Both types of Oatmega bars are packed with 14g of protein, 300mg of omega-3s, and 7g of fiber. The gluten-free and non-GMO ingredients include whey from grass-fed cows, gluten-free oats, and fish oil that comes from only responsibly caught deep ocean fish. Not only will your body thank you for eating these bars, your conscience will as well.

If you have a sweet tooth and crave cookies, the chocolate mint crisp Oatmega bars are something you’ll want to check out. Apparently they taste a lot like Girl Guide cookies. The vanilla almond crisp Oatmega bars have the texture of cookie dough and feature vanilla chips and crunchy almonds. Both sound good to me.

If you’re tired of the same old protein bars and want something that will satisfy your hunger and curve your cravings for something sweet, check out these new Oatmega bars. You can buy them from Onnit either by the bar or by the box of 12. They’re not as cheap as a Snickers bar, but nothing healthy comes cheap.

Is Too Much Protein Bad?

Is Too Much Protein Bad?With 2014 lurking just around the corner, I’m sure many of us will be looking into diets and exploring what foods we should eat to lose weight. I’ve written about this topic many times in the past, including a few blog posts about foods that will help you feel more full for a longer period of time. One way to achieve this is by eating protein.

A mistake that I once made that I’m sure many other people will make is to load up on protein. It makes sense, right? If protein fills you up, just drink a couple protein shakes mixed with fruits and veggies and you’ll be good for the day while keeping your calorie intake to a minimum. The one caveat is that you need to burn that protein.

Your body requires a certain amount of protein. Once you reach that limit, the excess is converted into energy. When you have a surplus of energy–meaning you’re not physically burning it off–the body converts it into fat. So if you plan on making a couple of smoothies each day loaded with protein powder, you need to exercise hard to make use of the protein. Any extra could potentially be turned into fat, making you gain weight rather than lose it.

So how much protein should you eat each day? About 50g to 100g of protein is the recommended daily amount of protein that you should be consuming. When choosing a protein powder, try looking for one that’s balanced with other ingredients, such as fiber. Manitoba Harvest makes a variety of hemp protein powders with different percentages of protein. Onnit also has Hemp Force protein powder which is balanced out with other nutritional ingredients that your body will use, so you’re not just loading up on protein and gaining weight as a result.

Onnit DigesTech Released!

Onnit DigesTech ReleasedIt’s been a busy week for Onnit, with the release of its Zombie Bells kettle bells, new posters, a new shirt, and now its digestion aid. Like they say, when it rains, it pours. I’m excited about the Zombie Bells as much as the next guy, but don’t overlook Onnit’s newest supplement DigesTech.

From its name alone you can likely gather that DigesTech aids in digestion. Fortunately this is not a problem that I have to deal with, but I know that many of you do. That being said, DigesTech isn’t solely for the people who have trouble digesting things like dairy, fats, carbs, protein, and fiber.

Of course, those who do have digestion issues will feel positive effects from taking DigesTech. This product contains professional grade digestion enzymes that are formulated to help break down everything I mentioned above. This can ease discomfort that comes from digesting food, but Onnit’s DigesTech helps you absorb nutrients more efficiently as well.

Onnit DigesTech is crafted using a variety of ingredients designed to break down the five major food categories I mentioned above. These ingredients include protease to digest protein, amylase to digest carbs, lipase to digest fat, along with 14 other digestive aids. This is the time of year when people tend to overeat and eat especially large meals, so DigesTech is the perfect all-natural solution to help you feel a little bit better. You will absorb more nutrients and your body will break down the food faster, leading to a decrease in fatigue and bloating after big holiday meals.

Onnit Hemp Force Vanill-Acai Now Available!

Onnit Hemp Force Vanill-Acai Now Available!First came the original Hemp Force protein powder with a chocolate maca flavor, followed shortly thereafter with a vanilla Hemp Force protein bar. I’ve always been a vanilla kind of guy, so I wondered if and when Onnit was going to drop a vanilla variation of the Hemp Force protein powder. Joey Diaz hinted a while ago that it was on its way, and friends, that day has finally arrived.

The reason for the delay is simple: it took Onnit a long while to track down the right vanilla to use in its protein powder, and then even more time to perfect the recipe. You can’t just combine vanilla with hemp powder and call it a day. Onnit spent over a year developing this new formula, experimenting with over a dozen different recipes before discovering the perfect flavor profile for the new Hemp Force Vanill-Acai protein powder.

What Onnit came up with is a unique recipe that includes hemp protein powder, vanilla, mesquite powder, freeze dried acai berries, chia seeds, and flax seeds. Mike Dolce would be proud, as Hemp Force Vanill-Acai is created using 100% earth grown nutrients. No vitamins or nutrients made in a lab somewhere. This is sustenance from the best stuff on earth.

I’m starting to sound like part-owner of the company or something, which I obviously am not, but I am a big fan of Onnit’s products, including the original Hemp Force. Needless to say, I’m more than excited to try this new vanilla Hemp Force recipe. I hope to have some in my hands within a week or two, so check back soon for my full Onnit Hemp Force Vanill-Acai protein powder review!

Health Benefits of Greek Yogurt

Health Benefits of Greek YogurtRight off the bat, one of the health benefits of Greek yogurt is its consistency. By that, I mean it’s thickness and texture. It’s not that hard to believe that someone who’s wanting to lose weight could supplement soft serve or other creamy ice cream desserts with Greek yogurt instead, saving hundreds or thousands of calories over time.

As I mentioned yesterday, the thick texture of Greek yogurt is achieved by using a concentrated form of milk, though this can vary by brand, so remember to check the label. Those brands who do make their Greek yogurts with concentrated milk give you the ability to obtain more calcium from less amounts of dairy. So, for example, a small cup of Greek yogurt could pack the same amount of calcium as a glass or two of milk.

Greek yogurt is also packed with protein. This will of course vary by brand and type of Greek yogurt, but for the most part, Greek yogurt compared to regular yogurt will have about twice the amount of protein. Protein will provide you with energy and help you feel full longer.

But, like any product, you’ll want to flip to the nutritional information on the label and look for a few things. Make sure the Greek yogurt you’re buying is low in cholesterol. Make sure it’s low in sugar as well. Those appealing flavors could mean a lot of extra sugar compared to an unsweetened variety. Also, make sure your Greek yogurt has live and active cultures to obtain the health benefits that probiotics can provide.
