Whenever the choice comes down to two options, whether it’s Keurig or Tassimo, VHS or Beta, or even HD-DVD or Blu-ray, I always seem to make the wrong choice. This was the case when it came to my coffee, as I chose a Tassimo over the Keurig. While Tassimo does have some good options if you like lattes and things of that nature, the Keurig does have one thing going for it that the Tassimo doesn’t: Bulletproof Coffee!
Now don’t get too excited just yet, as Bulletproof Coffee isn’t available in the little K-cups we Keurig owners have come to know and love. To make Bulletproof Coffee in your Keurig coffee maker, you need to buy a reusable K-cup. So you’re not only helping the environment by eliminating empty K-cup after empty K-cup from clogging up our landfills, you’re getting arguably some of the best coffee on the market, made in the most popular and easiest to use coffee maker.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before somewhere on this blog as I’ve written about Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee a number of times, but this will be the first time I’ve dedicated a blog post to it. At any rate, reusable K-cups can be found virtually anywhere that K-cups are found, but if you haven’t been able to locate one yourself, Amazon has one available along with Bulletproof Coffee and all of its accoutrements, such as Bulletproof MCT Oil.
Before purchasing though, make sure to check the model of your Keurig, as some reusable K-Cups like the Ekobrew Reusable K-Cup is not compatible with the following models: Keurig B30, B130, B150, B155, B3000, the Vue Brewer, or Mr. Coffee KG-5. If the Keurig machine you have isn’t one of those listed, you’re in luck! It will now be that much easier to make your Bulletproof Coffee each morning.
Did you know that caffeine is the most widely used drug on earth? It’s not that hard to believe when you consider how many coffee shops there are and how many people rely on them to help start their day. I’ll admit that for a long time I too would grab a coffee on my way to work, but I’ve managed to kick that habit and have felt a lot better because of it. Sure, it could be because I’ve substituted coffee from Starbucks and similar chains with Bulletproof Coffee, but also because I’ve found other ways to get energy during the day.
Caffeine addiction is real and so are its withdrawal symptoms. During the time when I first quit drinking coffee, I would experience serious headaches and cravings for that morning cup of Joe. I quit smoking cigarettes many years ago, but found quitting coffee to be much harder. I admittedly would break down and buy a coffee occasionally and always got a serious case of the jitters that made me severely uncomfortable for a long while.
Now that I’m free from traditional coffee (I don’t lump Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee in with the rest) I have found other ways to gain energy throughout the day rather than relying on coffee after coffee. One of the best ways is to eat a good breakfast. If your stomach is full with cereal, fruit, and juice, you’ll be less likely to crave coffee and you’ll have energy to keep you awake. Make sure you snack on healthy foods throughout the day and eat a good lunch to keep your energy levels up. Avoid sugary treats as they can boost your energy temporarily, but you’ll come crashing down later.
Another reason I was relying on coffee so much is because I wasn’t sleeping enough. I’m sure that most other people out there find that they don’t have enough time to do everything that they need to do. But spreading yourself so thin at the cost of sleep is never a good idea. Shut down the computer and the television at a decent hour and get a solid seven or eight hours of sleep. You’ll feel better in the morning and will be less likely to crave coffee.
Finally, I found that working out improved my overall energy levels. It seems like a catch 22 doesn’t it? Exercising makes me feel alive and energized, but at the beginning I would often feel too tired to exercise. After a week or two of forcing myself to workout, I found that my energy levels increased and I wasn’t as groggy during the day.
As I said, I no longer drink traditional coffee, but I do indulge in Bulletproof Coffee as it’s delicious and doesn’t give me the side effects that I used to get. That being said, there was a period of time when I didn’t drink coffee at all, and the above tips helped me to kick the habit. Hopefully they can help you too lose a bad habit and pick up a few good ones along the way.
I’ll admit that I was a little worried when I received my first order of Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee. Why? Because I bought five pounds of the stuff, so whether I liked it or not, I was going to drink it! Also, I was a little concerned with how the coffee was going to taste. I mean, I used to drink my coffee with cream and sugar, so it was going to be a big change for me going without both of those and instead substituting in grass-fed butter and Bulletproof Upgraded MCT oil.
I won’t get into the preparation of Upgraded Coffee, and I’ll get right to what you want to know: how did I like it compared to my regular coffee? Well, I like regular coffee, but Upgraded Coffee is on another level. I honestly didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. The grass-fed butter and MCT oil combined to make one of the creamiest, smoothest coffees that I’d ever tasted, and best of all, it was guilt-free.
So the first test was passed: I liked how it tasted. But did I notice any of the effects that Dave said I would? After my first cup, I did feel better. I had more energy, felt more alert, and I wasn’t looking at the clock by 10AM wondering when lunch would roll around. I now substitute breakfast with two cups of Upgraded Coffee along with the butter and MCT oil.
Is there a downside to the Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee? The only negative I can attribute to the product is the cost. Most people will find it expensive compared to what they’d find at the grocery store, costing just under $19 per bag from the Onnit website. But when you work out that a single up costs less than fifty cents, it suddenly seems more appealing than a $5 grande from Starbucks, and it will taste better too.
How you prepare Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee is not the same process you would take if you were making an average cup of Joe at home. The process is a little more time consuming and even has a few steps that will leave most people scratching their heads. But this recipe will produce what many people consider to be one of the best cups of coffee they’ve ever had.
What sets Upgraded Coffee apart from most cups of coffee is that it’s not ready to drink once it’s brewed. The Upgraded Coffee recipe actually starts with two cups of brewed coffee added to a preheated blender. Yes, a blender! Next, instead of cream and sugar, add about two tablespoons of grass-fed butter and 30 grams of Bulletproof Upgraded MCT oil, though any MCT oil will do. Finally, blend it until there’s a frothy head of foam. What your left with looks quite similar to a pint of Guinness.
It’s important when perparing Upgraded Coffee to use grass-fed butter and not salted butter. The grass-fed butter is a key ingredient because it’s actually much better for you than other butter. It contains healthy fats and actually optimizes your cholesterol rather than making it worse. You’ll notice you have much more energy and feel better than you would drinking Starbucks, for example.
Bulletproof Upgraded MCT Oil is actually an optional ingredient, though you could use coconut oil if you have that on hand instead. The idea behind adding either of these two ingredients is that it provides energy and helps you lose weight as well. Starting your day with a little bit added to your Upgraded Coffee could be just the kick you need to get you over the mid-morning hump until lunchtime without feeling groggy or sluggish.
Without sounding too much like an advertisement or press release, Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee is unlike any coffee you’ve ever had before. It has literally taken its creator Dave Asprey years to determine the problems with the conventional coffee we drink, and then put into action the steps necessary to remedy these problems and create the ultimate coffee that’s not only delicious, but performance enhancing as well. Hence the name Upgraded Coffee.
One of the main reasons many of us start our days with a cup of coffee each morning is that we feel that it helps wake us up and the caffeine gives us a boost of energy to get us through until lunchtime. The largest problem Dave found with traditionally grown coffee beans is that they actually contain toxins that can ultimately make us feel worse than we would if we hadn’t had a cup of coffee at all. For many people, this can mean headaches, jitters, crankiness, and it could even make you more tired.
Upgraded Coffee is grown to have the lowest toxin content compared to traditional coffee. The beans are grown at high altitude in Guatemala on a Passive Organic family-owned farm, free of chemicals, herbicides, and pesticides. They are then hand-picked at the height of freshness and processed right after to ensure low levels of mycotoxins. This is a more expensive process compared to typical methods where beans are left outside to ferment and grow moldy simply because it’s easier to remove the outer layer of the bean.
After processing, the beans are then sent to the United States where they are roasted under the strictest of conditions in small batches. Such attention to detail ensures that Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee is crafted from what Dave Asprey believes are the ultimate coffee beans. As a result, Upgraded Coffee drinkers can produce at home what many feel is the ultimate coffee beverage.
