Are Synthetic Vitamins and Minerals as Good as Natural?

Are Synthetic Vitamins and Minerals as Good as Natural?I was recently at the pharmacy and took a stroll down the vitamin aisle. There were literally shelves with rows and rows of bottles, each containing a different vitamin, mineral, or amino acid. If we’re deficient in something, it makes sense to just buy an over-the-counter supplement, pop a capsule once per day, and give ourselves a pat on the back. The problem is that synthetic vitamins and minerals aren’t necessarily as good for us as those found in the foods that we eat.

The problem with most of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients available in capsule form is that they’re synthetic. They’re not the same as they would be if we were getting them from our food. As a result, these vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that we think will help our bodies can actually tax our bodies, deplete them of other things we do need, and then pass through the liver to be urinated out of our bodies. This is why when you pop a synthetic vitamin, your urine will turn a neon shade of yellow or orange while it doesn’t when you get the same vitamins from food.

When we get vitamins from food, we’re getting all of the other good things that go along with the vitamins, such as enzymes. Synthetic vitamins isolate the vitamin, leaving out these extras that are normally found in food alongside the vitamins. Dr. Ben Kim uses vitamin C as an example. When we get vitamin C from food, we’re getting things like rutin, bioflavonoids, tyrosinase, and ascorbinogen along with it. When you take a synthetic vitamin, you’re getting just the vitamin C. The body then must gather the rest of these components to complete the vitamin C complex. If these components aren’t there, the vitamin C capsule does no good and passes through the body as waste.

Because whole foods provide complete vitamins rather than portions of them, you can ensure that not only are you getting the vitamins you need, your body is actually absorbing them properly. This is why it’s greatly preferred to obtain your vitamins through food whenever possible rather than a supplement. The same logic applies to minerals as well.

Dr. Ben Kim has a great article on this topic on his blog, and it’s all explained in easy to use language. If you’d like to read more about this in greater detail, check out his site.

Onnit Introduces EGN Powerfood

fOnnit Introduces EGN PowerfoodI first wrote about this product back in May of this year. Aubrey Marcus was on Joey Diaz’s podcast talking about Onnit’s upcoming products and he mentioned something about a new product that would rival Green Vibrance. Seven months later, this product has finally come to fruition, and it’s called Onnit EGN Powerfood.

Back then I had no idea what Green Vibrance was, so I did a little research and found out that it’s a powder that you mix in water or juice. It’s a superdrink that provides you with a wide range of vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that a lot of us don’t get through our daily eating habits. Having the ability to drink some Green Vibrance and get everything you need from one glass is appealing. The problem according to Aubrey is that Green Vibrance doesn’t taste good. At all. If you’re like me, drinking something that tastes disgusting doesn’t make me want to drink it, regardless of how good it is for me.

So what Aubrey set out to do was to create something in the same vein as Green Vibrance, but have it taste good. The result is EGN Powerfood, with the EGN standing for Earth Grown Nutrients, a favorite phrase of Mike Dolce. It works in much the same way as Green Vibrance: you scoop some of the powder into a glass of water or juice and chug it back.

So what’s in this EGN Powerfood? Literally too much stuff for me to type out here, but I’ll break it down into categories: there are an assortment of antioxidants, a variety of greens, a rainbow of fruits and vegetables, a blend of ingredients designed for detoxing, and a blend for digestion to cap it off. It’s honestly a little unbelievable when you look at the list of ingredients and think that somehow they condensed all of this stuff into the plastic jar of EGN Superfood, and that somehow you can obtain the benefits of these ingredients by drinking one glass of the stuff per day.

I’m the type of person who doesn’t like eating many vegetables. I’d rather blend and drink them in a smoothie than eat them with my meals, but I try as best as I can. Knowing that you can mix up a drink and obtain the same benefits is definitely appealing. Now some of that stuff I force myself to eat I can take off the menu and substitute it with EGN Powerfood instead.

For those who care about gluten and GMOs and all those other food-related buzzwords, EGN Powerfood is vegan-friendly, non GMO, and it doesn’t contain any dairy, gluten, or soy.

Onnit 180 Drink Mix Now Available!

Onnit 180 Drink Mix Now Available!I’m on holidays this week so I’ve been away from the computer, but I thought I’d type up this quick blog post to let everyone know that Onnit 180 drink mix powder is now available! I first wrote about this months ago–late spring or early summer, if I remember correctly–so this is a long time coming. I’ve been really excited about this product!

So in a nutshell, Onnit 180 is a rejuvenating drink mix that’s filled with vitamins and nutrients. I first heard Aubrey talk about Onnit 180 on Joey Diaz’s podcast The Church of What’s Happening Now and he said that it is a great product for anyone who suffers from jet lag, or for when you’re hungover. It’s actually like a few Onnit supplements combined: you get the cognitive enhancing and neurotransmitter benefits of Alpha Brain, the adaptogens from Shroom Tech Sport, 5-HTP from New Mood, along with minerals to boost the immune system and some new ingredients as well. Basically Onnit 180 is great for any situation where the body feels stress, like jet lag and hangovers of course, but when you’re feeling down or when you need Alpha Brain’s effects to hit you faster than taking the supplement in capsule form.

Onnit 180 powder drink mix is now available on the Onnit website and it comes in boxes of 10. It’s priced at about $30 for a box of 10, which can seem expensive, but keep in mind this isn’t Kool-Aid. It’s also not medicine, but you should treat it that way: taking it only when you need, not when you’re thirsty. Having a box at the office, at home, and one for the suitcase will ensure that you’re always covered when stress from flying, drinking, or working becomes overwhelming.

What is Green Vibrance?

What is Green Vibrance?I first wrote about Green Vibrance a week ago after Aubrey Marcus, the brains behind Onnit, mentioned it on a podcast. He spoke about how Onnit was working on its own version of Green Vibrance because he considers it to be the most important part of his supplement regimen. But still, I was left with questions like what exactly is Green Vibrance and how could I benefit from taking it?

Green Vibrance is designed to provide nutrition to your whole body. It’s packed with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that most people aren’t obtaining in their current diets. Green Vibrance also helps efficiently deliver those vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to every cell within the body. It also promotes digestive tract health, which in turn helps the body absorb all the aforementioned vitamins, minerals, and nutrients better than ever.

There’s no way that I could even begin to tell you about all the ingredients in Green Vibrance. For that, just click here for the full list and prepare yourself for a long read. Done? OK, good! As you can see, everything is measured in micrograms with each serving being a total of 12 grams. You add this 12 grams of Green Vibrance powder to water and then chug it back. It won’t taste good, but that’s not the point. It will make you feel good.

Keep in mind that I’m only scratching the surface in terms of what Green Vibrance contains and how it can benefit you by adding it to your daily supplement regimen. I’m actually quite intrigued by this product and plan to order some soon. Also, knowing how important Green Vibrance is to Aubrey and learning that Onnit is working on its own version has got me very excited!

Onnit Stron Bone and Joint Review

Onnit Stron Bone and Joint ReviewHave you ever heard of “strontium” before? I hadn’t either, at least not until I did some in depth research into Onnit’s Stron Bone and Joint supplement. It turns out that strontium isn’t the element they made Wolverine’s bones and claws out of when he was created in a lab. In fact, strontium is a naturally occurring mineral found deep inside our bones.

What Onnit’s Stron Bone and Joint provides you with is increased bone strength and the ability to recover faster than you would if you weren’t taking it at all. Studies have shown that Stron Bone and Joint decreases the risk of fracture by 41% and, when combined with calcium, could increase bone density by 30%. This makes it an ideal supplement for athletes, the elderly, the accident prone, and those with physically demanding jobs.

Stron Bone and Joint doesn’t focus solely on the bones, but also the connective tissue between the bones as well. Three ingredients specifically work towards promoting joint health: N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, methysulfonlymenthane, and hyaluronic acid. These three ingredients prevent degradation of tissue between bones, help to regenerate tissue, and work as an anti-inflammatory.

It’s all very complicated and I’ve done my best to explain it in layman’s terms, but to be honest I don’t quite understand how exactly it works, I just know that it works. My bones simply feel stronger and more dense. I’m not sore in my legs and ankles after running when in the past I would be in a great deal of pain. If you struggle with any bone or joint related issues, I encourage you to give Onnit’s Stron Bone and Joint a try. With its 30 day money back guarantee, you have nothing to lose except aches and pains.
